Exist / Sunrises Project The idea of the Exist Project, in the form of a series of artworks, was inspired by walking the beach over the latter part of 2010. The fundamental basis for this was to gather and/or document a series of finds along the beach as evidence of my own experiences therefore proving my existence. This concept led to a project that involved photographing the rising sun, every morning during the whole of 2011. Though exhausting, the beginning of the year proved fruitful however, during this period my fathers illness and subsequent death at the end of May left not only a hole in my life but also a hole in the collection. The loss of my father and also of my mother just four years previously served to amplify the significance of my own existence. I continued to walk the beach and record sun rises until the end of 2011, however not on such a regular basis.

Flotsam and Jetsam
This body of work was the result of a natural process that evolved from and ran in parallel with the Exist/Sunrises project towards the end of 2011. It involved walking along the beach from Ballywalter to Roddans Port, which is situated, on the east coast of Northern Ireland. This took place every morning over a one-year period. This area is washed by the Irish Sea, and on a clear day the coast of Scotland is very visible.
